Our Aims
- Reduce and minimise the negative impacts of tourism.
- Promote ecological conscience in tourists and communities.
- Give direct benefits to the conservation of ecosystems and cultures.
- Direct financial benefits to local communities.
- Respect and support human rights.
- Always remember our commitment to be a green company.
Company policies
Our company is committed to a carbon neutral policy and to promoting conservation policies. All the services and suppliers we use are either are willing to adopt green practices. We encourage this through the use of presentation and workshops that explain the ecological and financial benefits of adopting environmentally beneficial working practicies..
- We do not use cruises as we believe there are more environmentally and socially responsible ways to enjoy the Galapagos Islands.
- We help people to earn a living from sustainable tourism rather than adopting other more environmentally damaging means.
Transportation
We are always searching for the greenest transport
- We use bicycles and walking wherever possible both on tours and within our organisation including communications between employees and suppliers. Our staff have access to bicycles when at the office and if a supplier is unable to use alternate means of transport whenever possible our staff will go out to them.
- We use vans and buses with clean engines that don’t produce black smoke and we always try to find the cleanest vehicle and fuel source available.
- For travel over to the islands we use an airplane that don´t produce black smock and we always try to find the cleanest vehicle and fuel sourse avaible.
- We inform the transport company that proper inflation of tyres can improve gas mileage by more than 3%.
- The boats we use have four stroke engines which are more ecologically sound because they are 70% quieter than two-stroke engines, emit virtually no fumes and use 50% less fuel.
Hotels
Wherever possible we use hotels with green certification or hotels that are working towards certification. If this is not possible we use hotels that are at least implementing changes. The ideal hotel should:
- Employ local staff
- Use local products e.g. food, building materials from sustainable source.
- Use biodegradable products.
- Reuse, recycle, and use organic waste for compost.
- Use energy saving light-bulbs.
- Not waste water and electricity.
- Reuse bed linen and towels.
- Install fans rather than air-conditioning.
- Use a laundrette which dries on a line instead of a machine.
- Install water saving taps.
- Have signs to remind guests about saving water and switching lights and electrical appliances off.
